While I think the IRS may only require 250 hours a year of effort to qualify as a business versus a hobby, though it’s at most only one factor, generating content is really a 24/7 job. I have to do all that other stuff in life to be able to deliver the entertainment I provide free. One day there will be advertising and I intend to generate income from that, but the cost to you is seeing ads for things that should interest you anyway. I certainly don’t want offensive ads anyway, such as political advertising trying to sway your deeply held beliefs about what kind of bike tire is best for you to use.
